A heat advisory is in effect for a large part of the
forecast area. There are several factors at play in the decision.
The hot afternoon temperatures show no sign of stopping...as the
upper level ridge will actually strengthen its hold over Oklahoma
and north Texas in the coming days. At the same time...southerly
winds will increase at the surface...holding temperatures up a
little higher than they have been in recent nights. For now...the advisory runs through Saturday... But hot weather is likely to
continue into early next week.
As for precipitation...the prospects look bleak.
In the extended...it still looks as though short wave troughs
will slide around the ridge and drop through Missouri and
Arkansas. Another
scenario that has an outside chance of occurring is that the
remnants of Dolly ride all the way around the ridge to eventually
bring rain into the southern plains. But for the moment the forecast will
maintain the hot and dry forecast unless other evidence mounts.
